A. Where does your sea urchin come from?

All our products are made using 100% wild-caught Tasmanian sea urchin roe, responsibly harvested from Tasmanian waters. Tasmania’s cold, clean marine environment produces sea urchin roe with exceptional flavour, colour, and natural umami.

B. Do your products contain artificial flavours?

No - The savoury depth in our products comes from sea urchin roe, supported by complementary ingredients such as natural seasonings and umami-rich components.

We do not use artificial flavouring to replicate sea urchin taste.

C. Are your products Australian made?

Our goal is to have all of our products proudly made in Australia, with Tasmania at the heart of our production and export growth.

At present, while some products are made locally using Australian ingredients, certain value-added products are manufactured overseas as we continue to build the range in a sustainable way.

Importantly, whether our products are made in Tasmania or overseas, all products supplied to Australia and New Zealand meet Australian food standards (FSANZ), reflecting our commitment to quality, safety, and consistency.

As we grow, our focus is to progressively bring more production back to Tasmania, strengthen Australian manufacturing, and expand this range into international markets under a strong Australian identity.

D. Are these products new, and what’s next?

Yes. Our sauces and dry products are new releases and represent a widely launched value-added sea urchin roe range developed and commercialised by Salty Roe Tasmania. Drawing on our experience harvesting and exporting Tasmanian sea urchin roe from our export-approved facility,

We produce a proprietary sea urchin roe extract derived from 100% wild-caught Tasmanian sea urchin roe. Our process combines gentle concentration techniques with carefully prepared freeze-dried roe powder to enhance natural umami while preserving the roe’s original character.

The exact method remains proprietary, but our focus is always on purity, consistency, and refined ocean flavour.

Depending on the product, ingredients may include:

  • Tasmanian sea urchin roe extract or concentrate

  • Sugar and salt (for balance)

  • Soy sauce powder and yeast extract (to enhance natural umami)

  • Spices such as pepper, onion, garlic, and ginger

  • Sea vegetables such as Tasmanian wakame

  • Stabilising agents where required for consistency and shelf life

Full ingredient lists are always provided on product labels in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Our products are designed to be versatile:

  • Sauces can be used as finishing sauces, marinades, or flavour enhancers

  • Seasoning powders can be sprinkled, rubbed, or dusted

  • Furikake is ideal as a topping for rice, seafood, and vegetables

  • Soup mix can be used as a standalone soup or as a flavour base

  • Frozen sea urchin can be thawed under refrigeration and enjoyed as sashimi, sushi, pasta, rice bowls, or in premium seafood dishes.
